Lecture: Almost Good Hair- Arvie Smith

Join the Portland Art Museum for a lecture with Arvie Smith. Smith, art offers freedom. Smith exposes racial slights, denigrations, and atrocities drawing from both his own lived experience as a Black man and the larger context of the history of race in the United States. He is a Professor Emeritus at Pacific Northwest College of Art and has taught at University of Oregon; Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore; Oregon College of Arts and Crafts, Portland; and Studio Art Center International in Florence, Italy. His work is in the collections of Charlayne Hunter Gualt; Myrlie Williams Evers; the City of Portland; Reginald Lewis Museum of African American History and Culture, Baltimore; The Estate of Nelson Mandela, South Africa; Portland Community College; Oregon State University; and Portland Art Museum.
