Newspace Center for Photography is a nonprofit community space for image-makers of diverse interests and skills. Through our exhibitions and public programming, education program and public photo-production facilities, Newspace serves as a place for people to engage with the image as it evolves in contemporary culture.
The Center presents 6-10 exhibitions annually that highlight contemporary image-based practices. Our exhibition program explores the various ways in which artists make images and the topics they investigate, and further serves as a platform for discussion. With our programs, we strongly advocate that the image is uniquely positioned to reflect, communicate, propose, and challenge the state of our culture and surroundings. Our exhibitions and public programs are free and open to the general public.
Newspace’s Education Program provides a place for individuals at all levels of experience to learn new photography skills from foundational to advanced and alternative. Class size is intentionally kept small (max. of 6-12 students) to ensure personal instruction. Our instructors are experienced professional educators, photographers, and artists with a wide range of skills, specialties, and expertise.
Newspace’s public facilities include private and community darkrooms, a fully equipped lighting studio, and a digital lab, all available for rent at an affordable cost.
